Michelle has had a career as a professional live sound engineer for nearly 30 years, working with some of the most recognizable names in music including: Styx, Gwen Stefani, Goo Goo Dolls, Melissa Etheridge, Indigo Girls, Mr. Big, Big Time Rush, Ke$ha, Jewel, Adam Lambert, and more.

In 2013 she co-founded soundgirls.org to create a supportive community for women working in professional audio. In 2015 she was inducted into Full Sail University's Hall of Fame.

Here's a sneak peek inside this episode:

  • [13:04] Because women often have to work a lot harder than men, to be taken seriously in this business, they end up becoming better at the job.
  • [15:29] The most important element to getting consistent work in this business, is building a network of contacts, and then staying in touch with them.
  • [23:03] You have to keep moving forward. You can't just stop. While one person may said no, the next person may say yes. If you give up, then you're done.
  • [29:39] You learn from your mistakes, but life is too short to make all the mistakes by yourself.  If you can learn from other people's mistakes, and save yourself time, then that puts you ahead of the game.
  • [45:03]  You have to have a passion for this business.  Whether you're a musician, producer or engineer.... it takes a lot of hard work to be successful and to make a career out of it.
